The story

A conversation across disciplines

Professor Amir Ghaffarianhoseini was an expert panel speaker at the Smart Sustainable Cities event during Techweek 2022. Hosted by AUT’s School of Future Environments and School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, the event brought researchers together with Smart Cities Council ANZ for a conversation about the future of cities.

From research to urban futures

The programme combined short research presentations, a moderated panel discussion and audience questions. It explored how research across architecture, engineering and computing could contribute to liveable, workable and sustainable cities. Themes included citizen engagement, regenerative living cities, smart healthcare, trust and governance, neuroarchitecture, acoustics and adaptive disaster management.

The panel

Amir joined Kenneth Johnson, Samaneh (Sam) Madanian, Maibritt Pedersen Zari and Ali GhaffarianHoseini. The MC script identifies Jannat as moderator and Professors Charles Walker and Aman Oo as event hosts. The programme invited discussion of the opportunities and challenges of a holistic approach to smart sustainable cities.

A research-led perspective

Amir contributed his expertise in architecture and urban microclimate to a wider conversation about how cities can better support people and respond to environmental change. The accompanying graphic is Techweek 2022 event artwork, used here while a panel photograph or recording is being located.
