Architectural evidence for hospital design
Research co-authored by Professor Amir Ghaffarianhoseini supports the green-roof guidance in the Cyprus Institute’s 2022 handbook Zero Energy Hospitals in the Mediterranean and the Balkan Region. Produced through the EU Interreg ZenH Balkan project, the handbook is intended to help public administrators, stakeholders and architects improve hospital energy performance.
How planted roofs perform
Its green-roof section uses the review by Umberto Berardi, Amir and Ali Ghaffarianhoseini to explain evaporation, evapotranspiration, shading and thermal inertia. It also draws on the review when explaining how vegetation and growing media influence roof heat flows.
Research reaching healthcare buildings
The handbook brings these mechanisms into a practical discussion of hospital envelope technologies. This extends the team’s green-roof research into guidance for the Mediterranean and Balkan healthcare-building context.
