داستان

A new lab, in public

For World Green Building Week 2019, Amir led a pecha kucha evening at AUT on the future of built environments, in support of the New Zealand Green Building Council. He opened it with a talk of his own, and organised it with Ali GhaffarianHoseini, his fellow director of AUT's newly established Architectural Engineering Lab, and Associate Professor Nicola Naismith, then Head of Built Environment Engineering. It was the lab's first public showcase.

Auckland as a living lab

The evening set out the team's vision for optimising the sustainable performance of future urban environments, using Auckland as a living lab, in line with the smart cities research of AUT's Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.

The talks

Amir invited researchers from the lab to give short talks: PhD researchers Attiq Ur Rehman, Damiloju Adeyina, Dulip C. Rajapaksha, Megan Burfoot, Okechukwu Nwadigo and Sameh Azzazy, and Master's graduate Jonathan Maitland-Smith. They covered building information modelling, sustainable design, housing affordability, neuro-architecture, classroom acoustics, trust in driverless technology and passive buildings in cooling climates. Several of them have since completed their doctorates.
